Summer is here, bringing some great summer concerts our way! It’s hard to keep track of all the great musicians and concerts coming to the area. For a full list of concerts coming to Maryland in June, check out our online calendar. In the meantime, here are a few bands and musicians headed our way in the coming month:
Robert Plant: Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, June 12th
Robert Plant rose to fame as the front man for legendary rock band Led Zeppelin, and he hasn’t slowed down since. With a career spanning over 50 years, Plant has received eight Grammys, including Album of the Year for Raising Sand, his collaborative album with Alison Krauss.
In October 2017, Plant released his eleventh solo album Carry Fire. With the help of The Sensational Space Shifters band, Carry Fire fuses Plant’s storied voice with rock and folk sounds to create an artful and evocative collection of songs.
In November 2017, Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters kicked off a world tour in celebration of the new album. You can see Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters, along with special guests Sheryl Crow and Seth Lakeman, at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Tuesday, June 12th, 8 p.m. Tickets prices start at $59.25 and are available here.
Vance Joy: The Anthem Theater, D.C., June 12th
In the late 2000s, singer/songwriter Vance Joy made the audacious decision to put his impending law career on hold, and instead pursue music. In 2013, the indie-folk pop musician released his first single “Riptide,” which became a world-wide sensation, racking up more than 100 million views on YouTube and over 265 million streams on Spotify.
In late February, the 30-year-old Australian musician released his second album, Nation of Two, and announced a massive world tour. Vance Joy will be performing at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, June 12th, 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices start at $55 and are available here.
Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo: Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Annapolis, June 18th
Rock vocalist Pat Benatar and producer, arranger, and songwriter Neil Giraldo took the pop-music charts by storm throughout the 1980s, collaborating on chart-topping and award-winning hits such as “Heartbreaker,” “Love Is A Battlefield,” and “We Belong.” After nearly four decades in the music industry, the husband and wife team continue to sell out shows and thrill audiences around the world.
Benatar and Giraldo are bringing their tour, “A Very Acoustic Evening With Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo,” to Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Monday, June 18th, 8 p.m. The duo will perform stripped down, acoustic versions of their collection of hits, and share the stories behind the songs. Ticket prices start at $85 and are available here.
The Wailers: Avalon Theatre, Easton, June 14th
Bob Marley & The Wailers sold over 100 million recordings worldwide, including Exodus, which was dubbed the Best Album of the Century in 1999 by Time magazine. Thirty-six years after Marley’s death, The Wailers are honoring his dying request that the band keep the music alive. Though the lineup looks a bit different than it did in 1981, the band continues to play sold-out crowds all over the world. Many of the current members share familial ties with original members, and the band continues to carry on Marley’s legacy by playing the music that largely shaped the reggae genre.
The Wailers will be bringing their timeless sound to the Avalon Theatre on Thursday, June 14th, 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 and available here.
