Both sides of the bay will be busy this weekend with events to fulfill all types.
The Anne Arundel County Fair returns for its 61st year to ing you its annual chock filled five day schedule that runs through Sunday. The schedule of events is seemingly endless with activities ranging from a “cutest kid contest,” live music, vendors, scarecrow judging, equestrian demonstrations, horse pulling contest, tractor pulling contest, jousting demonstration, and the 7th Annual Arundel Idol contest, which shows off the top singing talent the county has to offer.
If you're in the mood to eat, this is the weekend for you.
The Annapolis Towne Centre will be present its inaugural The Annapolis Towne Centre will be present its inaugural restaurant week beginning on Sunday and continuing through next Saturday. With top-end establishments like Bonefish Grill, Gordon Biersch, Brio, Cadillac Ranch, Jimmy John’s, P.F. Chang’s and more, guests will have their plates full – literally and figuratively.
Across the idge, the city of Cam idge will host its 7th Annual Summer Sendoff: Blues, Brews and BBQ. Guests can enjoy craft beers and cocktails as well as delicious barbeque as the name suggests. There will be six live music performances presented on two stages. Blackwater and Anna Burgess & Tony Buscemi will play on the main stage and Bobby Reed, Emma Myers, Colby Sard, and Adam Whitaker & Kevin Brown perform on the acoustic stage. There is also the Main Street Mile Relay Race, which is actually only about 60 feet. During the race, contestants will compete in a triathlon spoof by “swimming” – running dressed with a snorkel, fins, and a mask, “biking” on a kids tricycle, and “running” – walking while balancing an egg on a spoon.
If you need to tone up before feasting on scrumptious food at the aforementioned events, take part in the 5th Annual Run4Shelter at the Kent Island Cross Island Trail. Runners can compete in the Shelter Half Marathon, 10K or 5K races. This event is great for kids, who can take part in a fun run at 10 a.m. Proceeds from this event go to Our Haven Shelter.
Football fans will be pleased this weekend as both the Baltimore Ravens and Navy Midshipmen open up their home schedules against the Cleveland Browns and Delaware Blue Hens, respectively. Navy will kickoff at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium at 3:30 p.m. and the Ravens take the field at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Ravens have been dominant at home, winning 36 of their last 42 games since 2008, including playoff appearances.
If all this entertainment wears you out, take a seat after bidding on a rocking chair at The Masthead in Oxford on Sunday afternoon during the Rock On Talbot Auction. The chairs will feature amazing designs with local themes including paint jobs of the Maryland flag, the Chesapeake Bay, an Old Bay can and a lot more.
