We are looking to preserve our skin all year long, but it is even more important to take care of our skin in the summer. Maybe you spend a lot of time running errands or maybe you spend your summer days at the beach. Either way, you want to protect your skin from the sun, but we know this. Wear your sunscreen or invest in a daily moisturizer with sunscreen already in it. The last thing you need is another person telling you that you should wear your sunscreen. Along with sunscreen, there are so many little things that you can do to protect your skin.
Change Your Makeup Often
The shelf life of your cosmetic products probably isn’t as long as you expected. Many of us keep our favorite mascara around until there isn’t a swipe left, but really this is not good for our eyes. Mascara should be replaced every three months. Every time it is opened, it is more vulnerable to bacteria and can lead to possible infections. The same goes for liquid eyeliners.
Pay attention to your foundation. Most liquid foundations last up to a year, but if you sense a change in texture, smell, or color, it is time for you to replace it. With this being said, you should be washing your brushed as often as possible. If you are more prone to acne, change your foundation every six months rather than each year in order to really keep your face in fresh, clean product.
If you don’t wear makeup often, it is the best bang for your buck to invest in powder foundation. This, along with blush and bronzer, can last up to two years if it is stored correctly. Heat can destroy makeup, try to keep your makeup in a dry and cool place, even the fridge, to make it last longer.
Try Oil-Free or Non-Comedogenic
In the summer we are definitely sweating more often. Especially with this humid Maryland weather, it is possible that we break a sweat on the way to our car. When we start sweating and have an oily product on, it is easy to clog our pores, which can cause irritation and blemishes. Try to stick to oil free sunscreens and products to keep your skin looking and feeling clean and smooth.
Invest in an Aloe Plant
Aloe is a great natural product for more than just a bad sunburn. Using aloe can help reduce inflammation, lighten scars and stretch marks, can boost your immune system and so much more. Instead of buying bottles and bottles of aloe, invest in an aloe plant. They are a beautiful addition to your sunroom and an even better addition for your skin.
Skip the Hot Shower
Don't skip the whole shower, you probably need it, but try not to make the water so hot. Taking hot showers is an easy way to dry out your skin. Of course, you should be using a good rehydrating lotion when you get out of the shower, but don't dry your skin out anymore by taking hot showers!
