As we get closer to summer, the weather is getting irresistible, especially considering we have been cooped up for so long. Get outside and try one of the parks below! Leave your comfort zone by hiking by the waterfall at Cunningham Falls or see the ponies at Assateague Island. There are plenty more trails to try out around the state, but use this list to get you started.
Anne Arundel County
- Down Memorial Park Trail: Take the dog for a walk on the Down Memorial Park Trail, a 3.5-mile loop in Pasadena with the chance to see beautiful wildlife.
- Wildflower Trail: Stroll around Kinder Park Farm on the 2.5-mile Wildflower Trail. This loop is an appropriate difficulty for all skill levels.
- Broad Creek Park: Enjoy the wildlife as you embark the 4.7-mile loop near Annapolis. There is even a lake featured on this moderate trail.
- WB&A Trail: Ride your bike on the WB&A 9-mile trail through Odenton to the Patuxent River and connecting to South Shore Trail and trails through Prince George’s County.
Eastern Shore
- Herring Creek Nature Park: Spend a beautiful summer day at Herring Creek Nature Park in West Ocean City this summer. If you need an activity to enjoy off the beach, head over to this park.
- Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge: This wildlife refuge in Kent County offers many trails, including Duck Inn Trail, Bayview Butterfly Loop, and the Tubby Cove Boardwalk. They all reside on a peninsula between the Chester River and Chesapeake Bay.
- Ferry Point Trail: Jump on this 2-mile walk along the side of Chester River. This stroller friendly trail is great for bird watching.
- Terrapin Beach Park: Explore every terrain with the 3.25-mile trail through wetlands, tidal ponds, wildflower meadows, and more. There is a wheelchair accessible boardwalk along the beach for a breathtaking view of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
Regional
- Loch Raven Reservoir: Take your pick on trails, from long and easy to short and difficult. Loch Raven Reservoir right outside Towson has many options. Get directions to the right one here!
- Cunningham Falls (Thurmot): Take a little road trip to Cunningham Falls for camping, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and more. The park offers two different campgrounds.
- Great Falls (Montgomery County): Check out Great Falls in Montgomery County, and if you are ready for another adventure, explore the Virginia side. Don’t forget to stop by the visitors center for a Jr Rangers book for the kids!
- Patapsco Valley State Park (Ellicot City): Catch the scenery at Patapsco Valley State Park which runs alongside the Patapsco River for 32 miles.
- Rocks State Park (Harford County): 855 acres of Harford County is ready for hiking, fishing, tubing and more. Reservations are required to visit the park, but can easily be made here!
