The Zonta Club of Annapolis is celebrating its 90th Anniversary and the Centennial Anniversary of Zonta International on May 18, 2019 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Annapolis with dinner and a program highlighting 90 years of service. Five Anniversary Grants will be awarded at the celebration. The recipients are: Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence, Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Chrysalis House, The Bernie House and Anne Arundel County Partnership for Children, Youth and Families.
The Zonta Club of Annapolis was chartered in 1929 as the 58th Club of Zonta International. The Club has been continuously active in Annapolis and the surrounding community through service and advocacy to benefit women and girls. The Zonta Club of Annapolis Foundation, Inc. commenced in 2011 as a 501(c)(3) public charity.
The Zonta Club of Annapolis is a voting member of the Maryland Legislative Agenda for Women and supports initiatives advanced by the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence and the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault. Since 2006, the Club has supported, through cash and in-kind donations, the work of Chrysalis House, a residential treatment facility for women with addictions in Crownsville, MD. The Zonta Club of Annapolis held two Designer Handbag Bingo fundraisers in 2018 with proceeds benefitting its Foundation and The Bernie House, a non-profit founded by Patricia Slaughter, which provides transitional housing for women with children fleeing a domestic violence situation. A third Bingo fundraiser will be held on November 15, 2019. The Club’s popular “Zonta Café” can be found each year at the Annapolis Quilt Guild’s annual show in June. Since the late 1990s, the Zonta Club of Annapolis and/or its Foundation has awarded more than $30,000 in direct scholarships and $15,000 in scholarships awarded through the A Tribute to Women of Color program.
