Billed the “11 Best Days of Summer” this year's fair runs August 24th through September 3rd at the Timonium Fairgrounds and will also feature jousting exhibitions, swine racing, thorough ed horse races, pumpkin carving contests, professional chainsaw sculptors, and even an Guinness Book World Record attempt to make the largest crab cake.

This year's music entertainment boasts big name acts with pop music sensations Newsboys, Victoria Justice, and The Band Perry headlining a multi-day bill of local and regional groups. Of course a big focus of our state's fair is agriculture and there will a number of 4-H, farm and garden, home arts, and livestock competitions held throughout the duration of the fair in which entrants vie for top honors in a oad range of categories. The spectrum of competition includes almost everything under the sun: prized cows, plump pigs, colorful quilts, the largest watermelon, top Christmas tree, Miss Maryland Agriculture, and divine foods such as top honeys, jams, jellies, preserves, cakes, and much more.

Feeling hungry yet? There's no shortage of savory and sweet treats to take your taste buds to gastronomical nirvana. And at the state fair, leave room to indulge. You just might want to try a fried Twinkie after wolfing down a pit-beef sammy or soft-shell on a bun.

In all, the Maryland State Fair provides the most comprehensive sampling of our state's counties, cultures, and cuisine. As the saying goes, “Maryland is America in miniature.” Well, it's fair to say that for 11 days this summer, “Timonium is Maryland in miniature.”
