PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY FOR THE UPCOMING MD 370 / MILES RIVER BRIDGE CLOSURE IN TALBOT COUNTY
Three Week Closure Begins Saturday, July 11 for Bridge Rehabilitation
(June 24, 2015) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) reminds those traveling near St. Michaels and Easton about the upcoming idge closure scheduled for Saturday, July 11 at MD 370 (Unionville Road) at the Miles River in Talbot County. Weather permitting, all lanes will open to traffic no later than July 31, 2015.
This two-lane draw idge, built in 1984, will remain in the open position for cleaning and painting. SHA will install a containment system to ensure old paint and de is does not enter the waterway.
Northbound MD 370 traffic will be detoured east along MD 33 (St. Michaels Road) and turn left onto MD 322 North (Easton Parkway) just past the Easton Village Drive/Marlboro Avenue intersection. Traffic will turn left onto US 50 West, left onto Airport Road, and make a quick right turn onto MD 662 North (Longwoods Road). Traffic will then turn left onto Sharp Road, continue west along Little Park Road, turn left onto Todds Corner Road, and left onto Unionville Road. The detour will end at the Unionville Road/Miles River Road intersection, just north of the Miles River Bridge.
Southbound MD 370 traffic will be detoured north along Unionville Road and turn right onto Todds Corner Road and right onto Little Park Road. From Little Park Road, traffic will continue along Sharp Road, turn right onto MD 662 South, left onto Airport Road, and make a quick right turn onto US 50 East. Traffic will exit US 50 East onto MD 322 South and turn right onto MD 33 West. The detour will end at the MD 33/MD 370/Old Bloomfield Road intersection, just south of the Miles River Bridge.
During the scheduled work, the idge will be closed to all traffic (motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists). To provide additional access for cyclists in the area, bicyclists are expected to follow the same detour route as motor vehicles. Bikes will be directed onto MD 662 at Airpark Road. Drivers should plan for additional travel time; the detour is expected to add approximately 28 minutes/15 miles (maximum) to affected trips.
Some of the construction work can be loud at times. Once all equipment is in place, SHA’s contractor – Titan Industrial Service, Inc. of Baltimore - will work 24 hours a day until the project is complete. Marine traffic will have access to the Miles River channel while work is underway.
