United Way of Central Maryland recently announced $500,000 for programming supporting United Way’s goal ofbrbuilding self-sufficient families and stronger communities in Anne ArundelbrCounty.
United Way’s grants will support the organization’s overall mission tobrstabilize families and provide all central Marylanders the opportunity tobrattain a quality education, financial stability and good health throughbrprograms that provide emergency housing, after-school youth programming, legalbrservices, and more.

The nine community operating grantsbrtotaling $240,000 include:
br - Anne Arundelbr County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA),br $25,000 to support their work advocating for abused and neglected children
br - Anne Arundelbr County Partnership for Children, Youth & Families,br $30,000 to support their Family Navigator program
br - Arundelbr House of Hope, $30,000 to support thebr Homeless Day and Resource Center
br - Associatedbr Catholic Charities, $30,000 to support Sarah’sbr House, a supportive housingbr program, offering emergency and transitional housing for homeless familiesbr in Anne Arundel County.
br - Boys &br Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County,br $29,154 to fund the educational program: Power Hour: Making Minutes Count
br - Food Link,br $20,423 to support efforts in alleviating hunger in communities by linkingbr vital resources to families and individuals in need
br - Partners inbr Care, $15,423 to foster safety and well-being among seniorbr citizens through transportation and care management programs
br - The Lightbr House, $30,000 to support shelter operations
br - YWCA ofbr Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, $30,000 to provide legalbr services and support to victims of domestic violence
An additional $260,000 is also beingbrinvested in United Way’s homelessness prevention and shelter diversionbrprograms, which will be implemented by the Anne Arundel County Partnership forbrChildren, Youth & Families.
Each of these nonprofits facilitatesbrsome aspect of United Way of Central Maryland’s Family Stability programs. Abrmulti-faceted approach to supporting the region’s most vulnerable citizens,brFamily Stability programs at United Way are aimed at lifting families out ofbrcrisis and moving them to self-sufficiency through prevention (helpingbrat-risk families stabilize before they become homeless), shelter diversion (divertingbrhomeless families from traditional shelters to temporary housing, accompaniedbrby comprehensive case management) and financial education (working withbrthese families on financial literacy, asset-building, budgeting andbremployment).
“We are looking forward to continuingbrour work with United Way of Central Maryland as an Impact Partner,” said PambrBrown, executive director, Anne Arundel County Partnership for Children, Youthbrand Families. “Since 1993, we have worked to improve the quality of life forbrall children in Anne Arundel County. To-date, we have helped 178 families withbrprograms like our Family Navigator, and United Way’s homelessness preventionbrand shelter diversion programs.”
Since its launch in May 2012, throughbrMarch of this year, Family Stability programs at United Way have helped tobrprovide stability to 387 families, kept 570 children in their school of origin,brand diverted 138 families from homeless shelters into housing. In addition,brwith the opening of the new United Way Family Center, 18 teen parents are nowbron the path to high school graduation, with three graduating this past May.brThese new grants will help to continue this great and important work to providebrfamilies the support and resources they need and strengthen communities acrossbrcentral Maryland.
