36th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Dinner
January 11th, 6 to 10 p.m.; Maryland Live!, Hanover
The 36th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Program will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m. at the Casino Live Hotel Ballroom in Hanover, Md. Dignitaries invited to attend include Maryland Governor Wes Moore, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, Congressman John Sarbanes, County Executive Steuart Pittman, and Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley. The keynote speaker will be Congressman Jonathan Jackson, the youngest son of Rev. Jesse Jackson and godson to Dr. King. Governor Moore will also provide comments at the event. This inspiring evening is the largest celebration of Dr. King’s birthday in Anne Arundel County. A solo gospel performance by Larraine Jones from the Fowler United Methodist Church will be featured. MLK Day Program: Let's Create! Art as Activism
January 13th, 1 to 3 p.m.; Banneker-Douglass Museum, Annapolis
Saturday, January 13th at 1pm, we will explore how activism shows up in spaces in many different ways in a special MLK Day program. Artist Oliver James will take us on a journey that offers insight into the transformative role that art plays in shaping history. James will talk about creating pieces that address pressing social issues, spark dialogue, and inspire action. Following the talk, attendees are invited to contribute to a civil rights mural to be displayed at the museum.
Carly Harvey: DC's Queen on the Blues

Join us for an afternoon performance by Blues singer Carly Harvey. Based out of Washington, DC, Carly Harvey combines Blues, Jazz, Soul and Americana roots styles to create a unique sound.

Kimberley Lutz Madden will lead us in the restorative and healing power of sound frequency and healing. Bring a mat, blanket, and pillow if you'd like to experience the sound bath on the floor. Or you can sit on one of the comfortable chairs in our sanctuary.

Annapolis Symphony Orchestra School Concert
January 17th through 19th; Maryland Hall, Annapolis
It’s time for one of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra’s favorite traditions: our annual school concert! Join us for what’s sure to be an out-of-this-world musical field trip! Each year, the Symphony performs annual educational concerts for thousands of elementary school children from Anne Arundel County Public Schools, area private schools, virtual learners and homeschooled students. These concerts take place during the school day at Maryland Hall, and expose students to symphonic music in a fun, inviting, and often humorous way.
