Cultural Narratives of Sea Level Rise on the Chesapeake – Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St. Michaels

How do social institutions and narratives of place, heritage, and identity connect with current discussions of climate change and sea-level rise? Over two years, Washington College Associate Professor of Anthropology Aaron Lampman and his students conducted and analyzed interviews to explore the social, cultural, and economic barriers to climate-induced relocation, despite scientific predictions of relative sea-level rise on the Eastern Shore of Maryland that indicate catastrophic land loss over the next 50 years.

The Hedgelawn Classical Series Presents The Ann Street Trio – The Mainstay, Rock Hall

The Baltimore-based Ann Street Trio is devoted to performing chamber music from the classical era to the 21st century. Comprised of several of Baltimore’s finest musicians, the Ann Street Trio believes in engaging their audience through creative programming and conversation, and strives to give them an up-close look at the creativity and excitement of chamber music. The Ann Street Trio reaches audiences through chamber music series in the region, university engagements, and private salon concerts. With years of diverse performance experience, each member brings a particular expertise to their interpretation. Erik Franklin is a member of the U.S. Army Field Band (Ft. Meade, MD), Katlyn DeGraw is the Associate Principal Cellist of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and Hui-Chuan Chen performs recitals nationally and internationally alongside teaching at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Talbot County Empty Bowls 12th Annual Community Dinner – Immanuel Lutheran Church, Easton

Since its first dinner in 2009, Talbot County Empty Bowls has distributed $199,000 to local organizations that feed the hungry 365 days a year.
Oysters in Maryland: A Glass Half Empty or Half Full? – Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, St. Michaels

Oysters have long been integral to Maryland’s cultural landscape and the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. Though wild populations have diminished over the years, collaboration among stakeholders gives hope for the future of this beloved bivalve. Shannon Hood, University of Maryland Extension Associate Agent, will explore cutting edge research and community engagement strategies that aim to keep the oyster as a part of our ecological systems and cultural heritage.

This five-week class invites students to isolate, explore, and integrate each fundamental tool in the actor’s instrument to create dynamic characters. Activate the body, exercise the voice, engage the mind and release your imagination. Each class allows time for the actor’s to explore these tools and then integrate them in the context of story and text. Students learn to use themselves in new and exciting ways as they segue their own stories into workable text to practice sound text analysis strategies. This class culminates in monologue work and peer critique, and is a requirement to take Acting 2 and 3. NO CLASS FEB 18 This class and program is now full.
