When it comes to wedding signage, calligraphy is tried and true. And, oh, how we love a good flourish! But if you're looking to amp up your decorating game, consider neon lighting. It's retro; it's spunky; and, emblazoned with your surname or a catchy phrase, makes an awesome memento for your living room.
The foremost decision is whether to rent or to buy. A customized sign will cost you a pretty penny but can last three years or more, depending on maintenance. Don't know what to write? Wedding hashtags, initials, and song lyrics are all popular options, or ease the artistic pressure and rent a premade design, like a neon pink open heart or “DANCE” marquee from DMV-based vendor Brightly Ever After.
Although light-up signs come individually wired, they are often designed for indoor use and do not operate on battery power. “If you're having an outdoor event, you have to be cautious of where your sign is hung and how power will get to the sign,” says wedding planner Adriana Gorman. It's also important to consider how a sign will fit in with your overall event vibe. “Think of placements where it will be visible but not distracting,” Gorman explains, “like above a sweetheart table, a cake display, or a photobooth and behind a band.”
